Killing of Mahsa Zhina Amini on September 16th 2022 marked the beginning of "Woman Life Freedom" uprising in Iran, which is not only the women-lead struggle of a nation for democracy and freedom, but also the latest and arguably strongest wave of Iranian women’s movement in seek of equality and equity. Their ongoing journey hasn’t started recently though, in fact it has been building up generation after generation for almost the the past two centuries.
On September 15th, a seminar will be held at the University of Saskatchewan in partnership with the Gender Studies Group and Department of Political Studies at the University of Saskatchewan and the Canadian International Council, which is intended to provide some insight into the history of feminism in Iran through discussion and interviews with women’s rights scholars and activists, as well as presenting first hand personal stories of victims, protagonists and witnesses.
